As advertised in our previous science update, on 26 November we held our first mini-symposium with New Zealand and UAE researchers interested in Antarctic collaboration.
The goal of the symposium was to provide a taste of the breadth of NZ’s Antarctic research to UAE researchers (and vice versa) as a precursor to later seeding ideas for projects. At a later point in time, we will release details about associated funding opportunities. These are still being finalised, but we anticipate being able to fund peer-reviewed, co-funded collaborative projects with UAE researchers.
This is all intended to give effect to a Memorandum of Agreement recently signed with the UAE on Antarctic science.
To support this, we organised presentations from New Zealand Antarctic researchers.
NZ presenters included:
Dr. Adrian McDonald was also present.
They were joined by the following researchers from the UAE who discussed their Antarctic-related research:
Other affiliates of the UAE Polar Program and Khalifa University Polar Research Centre were also present.
